Carlos Sainz: “The Red Bulls have been stronger than expected”

MADRID, May 9. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Spanish Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) celebrated finishing the Miami Grand Prix in first place, after two bad races, and also doing it on the podium, a third place that he had “quite complicated” to defend against Sergio Pérez (Red Bull).

“It was clear that, starting on the dirty side, it was going to be complicated. I already warned about it yesterday. Even so, I started quite well and I was very close to being able to hold the position from Max Verstappen. The priority was to do the entire race, which He hadn’t run for two races, without learning about the car,” he said in statements to Dazn, collected by Europa Press.

The man from Madrid recalled those last races in Australia and Italy to further assess his third place. “I was able to do a clean race, without problems. Perhaps I wasn’t 100% physically after the hit on Friday and I had to take it a bit easy and finish third after a defense at the end with Checo, which was quite difficult to withstand with a tire cool,” he said.

“We have taken a step forward on the straights and a step back in rhythm. The Red Bulls were very fast with the medium wheel. They have been a little stronger than we expected. Now it’s Barcelona and we will bring improvements and see if it is enough to put up with them,” he finished.
