At least seven dead and eight others injured after a shooting at a church in the German city of Hamburg

At least seven people died and others eight have been injured this Thursday night in Hamburg, to the north of Germanyafter a shooting in a church from the Groß Borstel neighborhood, according to information from the tabloid Bildcollected by the German news agency APD. The Police of the city confirmed this morning that the agents found the body of what is suspected to be the author of the facts.

The events occurred around 9:00 p.m. local time (8:00 p.m. GMT) in a parish in Los Jehovah’s Witnesses in the aforementioned neighborhood of the German city, where a person allegedly initiated the shooting against the people who were inside the place of worship. According to the German magazine Spiegel, the perpetrator of the shots was a former member of his community.

The authorities suspected that one of the seven dead so far could be the author of the shots. This was stated this Thursday night by the police spokesman, holger vehren: “There are indications that a perpetrator is eventually in the place and that he is one of the deceased.” This morning the Police have confirmed that they have found the body of the alleged perpetrator. Initially it was reported that one or more of the perpetrators could have given themselves to the drain.

The spokesman also clarified that “all the people who died had bullet“and that in place of the facts several people were found with injuries caused by shots –some reports speak of “dozens” of injuries–, while other local media report that 17 of those present at the time of the attack were unharmed.

The Hamburg Police highlighted on its official Twitter profile that for the moment “There is no reliable information about the motive for the crime”, and has urged the population not to disseminate information that may be false. They have also appealed to the population to avoid the area of ​​the shooting and thus facilitate the work of the security forces.

The place of worship where the shooting took place is a three-story building located on a six-lane street in a low-traffic area of ​​low-rise houses. The inhabitants of this area have been alerted through a mobile phone application that warns of emergencies and that in this case has reported “extreme danger”.
