At least one person dead and another injured after an attack in a central Paris neighborhood

At least one person has died and another has been injured this Saturday after an individual attacked passers-by armed with a knife and a hammer in the Grenelle area, near the Eiffel Tower, reported the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin.

The assailant, who is already detained by the Police, reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” after the attack [“Dios es grande”]according to a police source cited by the France Presse agency.

The events took place at 9:30 p.m. on the Bir Hakeim bridge, between the 15th and 16th arrondissements of Paris. According to the French press, the deceased is a tourist with German and Filipino nationality who was found stabbed in the back and shoulder on the aforementioned bridge.

According to BFM-TV, which in turn cites a police source, the attacker is a 26-year-old Frenchman born in Neuilly-sur-Seine. For its part, France Presse details that he had suffered psychiatric problems and that he even declared to the police that he was tired of seeing Muslims die.

The injured man, an English tourist, was hit in the head with a hammer while he was walking with his wife and son on President Kennedy Avenue.
