Armenia again accuses Azerbaijan of “violating the ceasefire regime” on the border

MADRID, Sep. 23 (.) –

The Government of Armenia has again accused the Azerbaijani Army this Friday of “violating the ceasefire regime” on the border, although it has stressed that this new incident has resulted in “no casualties” among the Armenian ranks.

“On September 23, at around 7:40 a.m. (local time), units of the Azeri Armed Forces again violated the ceasefire regime by opening fire with rifles of different calibers in the direction of Armenian fighting positions on the border” , the Armenian Defense Ministry has said.

“The enemy’s fire was stopped with response actions. There are no casualties on the Armenian side,” he said in a statement published on his website, without commenting on possible victims among Azerbaijani ranks.

For its part, the Azeri Ministry of Defense has indicated that its artificers continue to remove mines in “liberated territories” and has indicated that in the last few hours “five booby traps” have been found placed by the Armenian forces in the Jojaly region.

Hours earlier, the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinián, had accused Azerbaijan before the United Nations General Assembly of having committed “unspeakable atrocities” during his latest attacks against the country.

The governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to a ceasefire last week after the latest clashes on the border, which left more than 200 dead. The fighting is the most serious since 2020, when they clashed over control of Nagorno-Karabakh, a territory with a majority Armenian population that has been a focus of conflict since it decided to separate in 1988 from the Azerbaijan region integrated into the Soviet Union.

These clashes ceased when the two countries reached a ceasefire agreement mediated by Russia, allowing Russian peacekeepers to settle in Nagorno-Karabakh for a period of five years.
