Almeida, to Courtois: “Those of us who cried in Lisbon with you are also on the good side”

Real Madrid offers its double in institutional visits

This Sunday afternoon, Real Madrid experienced the first institutional section of the party through the streets of the capital for winning the Champions League the day before against Liverpool, with a visit to the cathedral and the headquarters of the Community of Madrid and City Hall, in an atmosphere of logical celebration.

The party afternoon began around 6:00 p.m. with the bus leaving the Santiago Bernabéu without a top for the Almudena Cathedral. The white team offered the Fourteenth and the 35th League to the patron saint of the capital and was received by Archbishop Carlos Osoro, in an act that concluded with a family photo.

Later, the expedition of the European champion went to the headquarters of the Community and the City Council, where it was received by the president Isabel Díaz Ayuso and the mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida, both presented by Marcelo and Florentino Pérez with the team shirt and a small replica of the ‘orejona’.

Ayuso came up lifting the trophy several times, cheered on by those present at the Royal Post Office, and did not hesitate to dress in white. “The best team in the world is Spanish and it’s from Madrid. It carries the name of our city all over the planet again. Working together, Madrid style,” said the president, with a special mention for Thibaut Courtois for his saves in the final.

“Real Madrid has made history again. Madrid is our starting point, from here we have transmitted our values to the whole world. This European Cup will be remembered as one of the greatest in the history of the Champions League. A path that The legend of our club is gigantic. Madrid is eternal. Now, for the fifteenth”, Florentino pointed out.

After going out on the balcony of Puerta del Sol, greeting the hundreds of fans, Madrid returned to the bus to complete the institutional visitors at City Hall. Almeida, a renowned Atlético fan, received them all and in his speech he left more than one anecdote, especially that of Courtois.

“Those of us who cried in Lisbon with you and by your side are also on the good side. We all fit on the good side in this city,” the mayor told the Belgian goalkeeper, who in the run-up to the Paris final said that in the defeat as Atletico eight years ago against Madrid, he was not on the good side of history.

“Almeida, Indian, someone has said,” said the mayor to the laughter of the white players. “We are the headquarters of a proud city that hosts the best club of the 20th century and that is on its way to being in the 21st. It is soon said ’14’, how difficult you make it for those of us who are not from Madrid”, added the mayor from the capital, who also wanted to praise Carlo Ancelotti’s men for winning the League.
