Albares reiterates to the UN envoy for the Sahara Spain’s support for his work

The foreign minister, Jose Manuel Albareshas transferred the personal envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Misturathat Spain will make “any resource” available to them to facilitate their work and has reiterated its support for a mutually acceptable political solution within the framework of the United Nations charter.

In a statement, the ministry indicates that this is the fourth meeting that Albares has had with the personal envoy since his appointment in October 2021. The minister has highlighted to the envoy “the importance of the work he is doing” and has stated that Spain “will continue to make available to you any resources that are in your power to facilitate it.”

“In this meeting, Albares has conveyed the support expressed by the president, Pedro Sanchezfrom the platform of the General Assembly of the Nations, on September 22 in New York“, indicates in the note.

In his participation in the UN General Assembly in September, Sánchez defended that there be “a mutually acceptable political solution for Western Sahara within the framework of the United Nations Charter and the Security Council resolutions.” However, the president avoided mentioning his government’s endorsement of the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco, which they consider the “most serious, realistic and credible” option to resolve the conflict.
