MADRID, 4 Jan. (.) –
The Spanish coach Aitor Karanka has been announced this Wednesday as the new coach of Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv for the remainder of the current season and one more, occupying the position vacated by Vladimir Ivic, whose departure by mutual agreement was announced this Tuesday due to to his signing for the Russian Krasnodar.
“I am excited and proud to be part of a club with as much history and tradition as Maccabi Tel Aviv. I thank Mitch [Goldhar, propietario del club] their trust in me and my team. From the first conversation we had, I understood how ambitious the
club and the level that is expected of us”, indicated the coach in a press release.
Karanka achieved the feat of promoting Middlesbrough to the Premier League in the 2015-16 season, building the pillars that have allowed it to grow since then, and was also a key figure in the growth and consolidation of another historic English player like Nottingham Forest.
In addition, he coached Birmingham, and his last experience was at Granada, where despite his departure at the beginning of November, he signed the club’s best ever start. In Tel Aviv, the coach will meet a team that is second in the standings, six points behind the leader, and that goes ahead in the quarterfinals of the Israel Cup.
“I will give everything to help improve the team, for Maccabi Tel Aviv to continue to grow and also for the fans to feel proud. We have already started our work and we will be focused from the outset on meeting the club’s objectives”, assured the Spanish coach. .
In this way, the arrival of Karanka reinforces the commitment to good football that Jordi Cruyff established at the time as sports director, and which was consolidated with coaches such as Slavisa Jokanovic and Peter Bosz. This Saturday, at Bloomfield Stadium, he will debut in front of his new fans in a league match against MS Ashdod.
