The Deputy Secretary General of the PSOE, Adriana Lastra, has announced this Monday his resignation for personal and health reasons. He has reported this through a statement sent by the socialist leadership in Ferraz.
“In recent months there have been major changes in my personal life that require calm and rest and that, in the last two weeks, have forced me to take time off work that is going to last for a while”, the text highlights.
“For a socialist militant, being Deputy Secretary General of the PSOE is one of the most beautiful responsibilities that exist, it is also a very demanding task in terms of time, effort and care,” the statement begins. For all this, Lastra highlights “the difficulty of combining the demands of rest and careessential in my current situation, with the intensity required by the leadership of the Party”.
The decision was transferred a few days ago, as she herself points out, to Pedro Sanchez, general secretary of the PSOE. “I want to thank you for your trust all these years along a path that many believed impossible and that we have made a reality step by step,” he says.
Lastra wanted to thank all the people who are part of the Federal Executive Commission and the Ferraz staff. “It is difficult to find people with such dedication and such competence. They are a source of pride for this party, which, with them, will always be in good hands.”
In addition, he has also shown his athanks to all socialist affiliates and militants. “If I have been, am and will be anything, it is a member of this party. It has been a privilege to be your Deputy Secretary General and it is to represent our party in Parliament. But, above all, it is and will always be my greatest honor to be your companion, my dear companions and companions of the Socialist Party. We will meet in the groups and the houses of the town”, he concludes.
The already former deputy general secretary maintains her deputy act in Congress. She was one of the people who most supported Sánchez in his primary process five years ago. She served as parliamentary spokesperson for the socialist group in Congress from 2018 until last year, when she was replaced by Héctor Gómez. His departure, despite relying on health reasons, is accompanied by intense internal noise that anticipated changes in Ferraz’s direction.
